Ep 42: Opting out of alcohol with Allison Garber

Allison’s world was turned upside down when her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer last summer, and she began self-medicating with alcohol. Like so many women, Ally found herself taking the edge off her anxiety and OCD, and numbing her pain, with wine. Next week Ally will mark 12 months of sobriety – one full year of figuring out how to manage her mental illness and grieve the loss of her mom – all while navigating the pervasive drinking culture surrounding her. She’s learned a lot along the way and now she’s sharing her story as a way to help other women who are using alcohol to cope with their mental illness.
